"Because of the success of its distribution facility, the positive attention and encouragement from our City of Douglasville Development Authority (CDDA) and the Douglasville City Council and our logistics, they decided to establish a manufacturing facility, its adult incontinence solution, next to their already existing Douglasville location," Cindy Pocali said, CDDA director.

"This initiative was very much in keeping with CDDA’s vision for a prosperous, well economically planned Douglasville, putting business retention and expansion at the top of our focus," Pocali said. "The CDDA agreed to rezone the area to accommodate Medline’s manufacturing and offered an accelerated tax abatement, which would give 100 percent up front to assist in the purchase of new equipment and the initial build-out and then reduce during the life of the abatement."

Pocali said the City of Douglasville also helped in other ways, including getting grant money.

"The CDDA, with the support of the mayor and city council, set about finding a way to demonstrate, in a bottom-line way, the value we place on establishing and maintaining a very pro-business friendly and supportive atmosphere," she said. "Our policy being to keep these strong, responsible companies, giving our citizens good paying jobs, here and knowing they’re appreciated."

"Medline is an important citizen of Douglas County," Tom Worthan, , said in a statement to Dougasville Patch. "It has played an important role in our community since 2004 when Medline and the Development Authority of Douglas County negotiated the location of the distribution center across the street. More than 100 new jobs and a $15 million investment came at that time, and we thank Medline for them."

Today, more than half of all homebound older persons and more than half of all nursing home residents suffer from incontinence, according to a statement from Medline.

Medline’s new manufacturing facility will make the company's new FitRight brief, offering exceptional dryness and comfort qualities, according to the company. It is with innovations like this that the company hopes is to "enhance the dignity of older adults and change the culture of long-term care."

"In these tough economic times, new jobs are hard to come by, and we sincerely appreciate that Medline chose to build its new manufacturing plant here in Douglas County," Worthan said. "Medline is a wonderful corporate citizen.

"Think for a moment, if you will," Worthan continued, "about the quality that is required to be in the products that Medline makes. These products are used in hospitals and by health care professionals. The standards must be very high because these products literally help to save lives. Medline’s standards are that high, because if they weren’t, Medline products would not be in almost every hospital in the United States.

"Medline is innovating for a safer world, and engineering for life. We are happy that they have chosen Douglas County," he said.
