2 People Shot In Douglasville

A man entered a Douglasville home Thursday with a rifle and a man inside the home pulled a gun in self-defense, police said.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A man and a woman were injured Thursday morning when the man walked into a Douglasville home with a rifle and he and another man exchanged gunfire, according to police.

Darius Campbell, 35, entered the home at 8305 Hollis St. at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday and "confronted the occupants with a rifle," Douglasville Police said. One of them, 24-year-old Demarcus Almond, then shot Campbell in self-defense, according to police.

During the gunfire, Danielle Smith, 25, also was shot. It was not clear from a police news release whether she was shot by Campbell or Almond.

Campbell was shot multiple times, while Smith suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg, according to police. They were both taken to a local hospital Thursday and Smith was later released. Campbell remained hospitalized Friday morning, according to the release.

Douglasville Police said Friday that the motive in the shooting remained under investigation. They were briefly searching for Almond as a person of interest in the case, but said he had been located Friday morning.
