Army Vet Horace 'Smiley' Thurston Crawford, 83, Dies

Horace ‘Smiley’ Thurston Crawford, 83 of Douglasville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24. He was born Dec. 26, 1929 in Horton, AL.  Mr. Crawford was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, was an industrial engraver for Lathem Time for 41 years, enjoyed playing the spoons, gardening, lawn care, engraving and camping. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alena Chambers Crawford; and two brothers, James Crawford and Verlon Crawford.

He is survived by his wife, Wylodine Crawford of Douglasville, GA; son, Michael Rennie Crawford and wife Patti of Douglasville, GA; brother, Gerald Crawford and wife Ozella of Albertville, AL; sister, Mildred Goss of Albertville, AL; sister, Sue Sassenberger of Marietta, GA; sister, Darlene Morrison and husband Bill of Oneonta, AL; sister, Debbie Smith and husband Steve of Albertville, AL; grandsons, Jeffrey Crawford of Douglasville, GA and Nathan Crawford of Douglasville, GA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 27, from noon until 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
