Don't take away my Social Security Benefits

I had to pay into Social Security all these years, I better get my benefits.

I saw this post, post three Senators put together to change Social Security Benefits. I'm not an outwardly political person. I would put my leanings in the moderate to conservative category. If they change Social Security Benefits the way it's described in this post I will become sign waving, telephone calling zealot.

I don't care if it's a Republican, Democrat, Libretarian, or whatever. This would really piss me off. It's an issue of fairness. I didn't ask to pay into the system, I wasn't given a choice to opt out. Every paycheck for the last 20+ years I've put money into Social Security.

I would like to option to opt out, but it's not on the top of my list of concerns; however, since the government has required me to pay into the system for all these years and will continue to require it then I should get the benefits at the end. I'm not making this a philosophical argument about whether we should have a Social Security System or not. I don't care about that in terms of this issue. I paid and continue to pay into the system. It's just not right if they decide now that the system has to change and I get screwed.

I know some of you are going to say, the system has to change, or we should just drop the system because it's communism or we need to expand it to take care of our elderly, etc.. Once again. That is irrelevant to me. For me it's a right and wrong issue. I had no choice but to pay into the system. It is wrong for me not to get the benefits from all the years of compulsory payments. Am I wrong? I'd like to hear some feedback on why I'm wrong. I don't think you can convince me, but  I'm always open to new ideas.
