Hot Stuff for 2012: Grow Peppers In Your Garden

Check out The Pepper Gal's seed list to find great peppers to grow in your next garden.

Happy New Year, friends!

The weather has turned, and we're in for some strong winds and low temps tonight. That's okay, because it gives us an excuse to stay indoors and look over the new 2012 seed catalogs.

If you enjoy growing and cooking with peppers, check out The Pepper Gal's website. You'll find all kinds of peppers here, from bananas to bells, chiles to Cubanelles, and more. Sweet, hot, and ornamental--this seed seller has them all.

The Pepper Gal's products are collected from around the world, and this year I want to try her Black Hungarian Heirloom Hot Pepper Seeds. These are ornamentals, and they're gorgeous, with purple flowers held against green foliage. The mature pods, shaped like jalapenos, turn a glossy, deep purple-black.

I also want to grow some Cayenne Thick Hot Peppers to dry and crush into flakes, for cooking. They'd add fire to chili or salsas, too.

The Pepper Gal doesn't publish a full-color catalog, but you can order online, or email peppergal@bellsouth.net to request a printed list of seeds and products.

If you enjoy cooking with peppers, be sure you read Lucy Mercer's blog on the Douglasville Patch, or follow her at acookandherbooks.com. Use the "seach this blog" box on her site to find great recipes using a variety of peppers. Wouldn't a nice, spicy stew, or a fiery pot of chile taste good on a cold day like today?
