It's official, I'm Old School

Papa don't take no mess! So says James Brown. I'm not sure when it started, but sometime in the past year or so I started going back and listening to and watching the performers of my youth. Is this something that happens to everyone when they hit 40?

The James Brown renaissance for me happened when I was watching Muhammad Ali highlights on YouTube. They used the Papa don't take no mess soundtrack for the video. Watching Ali, Magic, and listening to James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, etc... just makes me feel good. I got my daughter listening to some James Brown and she recognized some hooks that the current Hip Hop Artists have taken from his music. My family isn't used to seeing me dance around but for some reason listening to "my" music inspires me to get up and get funky.

Unfortunately this nostalgia doesn't work with TV Shows and movies. I've tried watching the old cartoons and shows like "6 million dollar man" I loved as a kid, but they just suck. The quality and special effects are so bad compared to what we have now it's not enjoyable to watch those shows. Music and performers seem to be timeless.

Magic and Bird in their prime would still dominate in today's game and are a joy to watch on NBA Classics. You would think enjoying this old stuff would make me feel old, but it's just the opposite. I feel energized enjoying the performers of my youth. Especially when I get my son or daughter to appreciate them as well. I'm thinking it's not just me and you guys have similar feelings. Let me know so I know I'm not alone. Maybe we can hook and attend one of those return tours the old rockers are doing. Remember,  If you take a Journey down memory lane you won't stop believing. If you got that reference you are my people.
