My brother-in-law and I drove down to Florida last week to attend my great aunt’s funeral, it was a beautiful service with family, friends and people that I have not seen nor spoken to in many years. It was a very nice farewell ceremony for someone who meant so much to the family.

As I get older, I understand that this is the way life is, but as a young person it was all a mystery and a fearful one at that.
So the bottom line is to enjoy every moment as best you can, for as glorious as it was when we were ushered in, we must be ceremonially ushered out. Not one of us knows when or how.

With that, I leave you with a portion of a poem from Max Ehrmann entitled Desiderata:
“Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the tress and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
Here’s wishing everyone a Happy New Year 2012.
