Lonely? Need a Friend? You're Needed, Too!

Need a friend? The Douglas County Animal Shelter asks you to visit and rescue a cat or dog today. You'll be glad you did.

If you're feeling lonely during the holidays, you're not the only one. Lots of people find this season sad or depressing, especially when all the TV programs and commercials, and even the songs on the radio, are about families and loved ones celebrating together.

But sometimes we find ourselves alone. Maybe we've lost a spouse or parent, or an adult child has moved away.

The good news is--we don't have to be lonely.

There are pets waiting for a loving home at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, and they can give you so much love in return. I know, because I rescued a dog (although mine came from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, rather than the local shelter).

You can see my dog's picture along with this post. Her nickname is "Miss Paws," and I like to say she rescued me, as much as I rescued her.

Since my son moved away to college, she's been a companion, a friend, and even a walking buddy. She doesn't have a pedigree, but I don't care. I love her just the way she is, and she loves me back, unconditionally.

If you can help save a dog or cat's life this season, please visit the Douglas County shelter. There are so many animals that need homes, and they'll reward you with wags and licks and love.

The shelter, which is located at 1755 County Services Road in Douglasville (off Cedar Mountain Road, in zip code area 30134) is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It's closed to the public on Mondays, but will open to anyone who can offer a rescue. Call 770-942-5961 or fax 770-942-5914 for more information.

Don't be alone during the holidays. A furry friend is waiting to go home with you!
