Her passion, Robyn says, comes from having lots of cancer in her family. Her father was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and her brother with colon cancer. Losing her maternal grandmother, “Nana,” to breast cancer in 1992 set Robyn on her journey to walk in the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

Celebrating ten years this October, The Atlanta 2-Day Walk has generated more than $8 million for 169 grants to breast health programs throughout Georgia that provide screening and diagnosis, treatment education, and support services. The endurance walk is produced by It’s The Journey, a local organization which is proud to state that all of the money raised here, stays here in Georgia.
Both Robyn and her husband are both retired from the military and have been in Atlanta for 6 years. After seeing an online advertisement for the Atlanta 2-Day, Robyn decided it was time to get involved. Her first time walking was in 2009. “I burst into tears the first time I crossed the finish line,” says Robyn. She came back for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk again in 2010 just as ready.

Individuals or teams can participate in the Atlanta 2-Day Walk, which covers 30 miles over two days, with each walker responsible for raising $1,000.
This year, after a break in 2011, Robyn is back with her team the Pink Angels and is ready to walk. Her team includes her 4 sisters and herself, all walking as a way to give back. In order to stand out from the crowd, Robyn says that all of her team members’ shirts will have unique angel names on them to add a bit of fun.
Describing the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer as “the most emotional, joyous, fulfilling activity I’ve ever participated in,” Robyn emphasized that you don’t have to be personally touched or know someone who has battled breast cancer to give back to people who can’t be there.
