Broughton questions why just weeks before the election Sheriff Miller is attempting to generate news coverage by engaging a task force that Miller claimed was already in place.

According to Derrick Broughton, citizens have complained to him about crimes in their neighborhoods for the past four years and little has been done to suppress the crimes.
“Each time I drive by the sheriff’s office the parking lot is full of patrol cars. We need those cars on the streets, patrolling the businesses and neighborhoods. Sheriff Miller is pandering to the public just weeks before the election to appear to be doing something about the crime in Douglas County. It is not enough to just respond to 911 calls. As sheriff, I will assure the public we will be engaged in community policing”, said Broughton.

According to Derrick Broughton’s campaign director Leslie Golden, Broughton made his campaign position known weeks ago concerning community policing and Sheriff Miller is attempting to counter Broughton’s platform by claiming he is on top of the situation.
“A parking lot full of expensive patrol cars and equipment does little to suppress crime in this county”, Broughton said. “If elected, I will place the deputies out of the office and on the streets and engaged in the community”.
While meeting with the public, Broughton said the #1 compliant he gets about the sheriff’s department is response time. Broughton has accused Miller of being an “absentee sheriff” and not engaged with his staff or the public.
Broughton campaign theme is “Community Policing & Crime Prevention”.
