Chapel Hill Surges Past Douglas County

The Panthers use a strong second half to defeat the Tigers in a county match up.

Chapel Hill defeated Douglas County Tuesday night 92-75 with a great all around performance led by Senior Tevin Parker. Parker scored 30 points on the night accompanied by 16-point efforts by Senior Eric Gordon and Junior Jordan Jacks. Junior Matt Magee led Douglas County's scoring with 13.

Douglas County started the game with a full court press on defense, which Chapel Hill matched with smart passes and aggressive moves to the basket. After a quick timeout by Head Coach Joby Boydstone, the Tigers' Junior Richard Kelly (12 points) scored 10 straight points, including back-to-back dunks that brought the crowd to their feet and Douglas County to a lead of 19-12 with 2:38 in the quarter.  Chapel Hill Junior Kyle Edwards scored twice in the last two minutes to keep the score close. After one quarter Douglas County led 21-19.

The second quarter became a battle between Gordon of Chapel Hills and Douglas County Senior Antonio Glover. Glover scores all nine of his points in the quarter including a crowd-pleasing break away dunk that tied the game at 28. The Panthers' Gordon answered with a huge dunk of his own to give Chapel Hill the lead. The Panthers continually beat the Douglas County press and built a half time lead of 49-39.

The second half started with an offensive flourish by Chapel Hill highlighted by a follow jam and a three pointer by Parker on consecutive possessions. Douglas County's offense struggled through the quarter because of the Panthers own full court press. Tiger's junior guard DeVante Orebeau hit a running jumper just before the buzzer to make the score 65-51, Chapel Hill.

The fourth quarter belonged to Parker. The Chapel Hill forward scored 12 of his 30 points including two three pointers and a steal leading to a huge two-handed jam that sealed the game for the Panthers. Douglas County's Magee hit three straight three pointers but it wasn't enough to bring the Tigers back. Chapel Hill held off the late run to get their sixth victory of the year.
