Things to keep in mind this #Thanksgiving weekend:

1. Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies will be on the road throughout the holiday week. Between 22 traffic units, we will be enforcing traffic laws to keep motorist safe, day and night. We will be conducting LASER patrols, as well as license and sobriety checks.

2. The best advice is to buckle up, no matter how short your trip is. Make sure your children are properly fastened in the correct car seat. We see too many children who aren’t restrained properly and that’s just as dangerous as not being fastened at all. Also, remember the Move Over Law (emergency vehicles), which requires you to change lanes, unless impossible, and only then you should slow down to a safer speed. We can’t say it enough, if you even take a sip of alcohol or need that medication to get you through the day, get a designated driver!

3. We will be focusing on Click It Or Ticket. Wearing a seat belt tremendously improves your chances of survival in a crash. We will be diligently seeking those who are not.

4. Holidays are a time to be happy and make memories. A time spent with family. The decision not to buckle up, speed, or drive impaired are all very minor decisions that will change the lives of many people if not made properly! Above all else, drive safe and defensively and don’t let those memories be of preventable horrors.
