DCHS Grad Wins National Merit Scholarship

A recent Douglas County High School graduate has been named a winner of a College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship.

Parth A. Patel of Douglasville was one of around 1,700 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities, joining the more than 2,200 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in late May.

Patel, who is receiving a National Merit scholarship from Vanderbilt, plans to become a neurosurgeon, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation said in a news release.

Scholarship winners are awarded between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
