Douglas Co. Deputy Injured in Wreck While Answering Call
Robert G. Gayle had his lights and siren activated when his patrol car was struck on the driver's side.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a wreck Tuesday while he was on his way to an emergency, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Robert G. Gayle, 46, of Villa Rica, was driving through the intersection of Chapel Hill and Anneewakee roads with his lights and siren activated around 11:55 a.m. when his patrol car was struck on the driver’s side by a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Barry L. Frye, 66, of Douglasville.
Both drivers were injured. Gayle was taken to Douglas Wellstar, Frye was taken to Grady Hospital, the state patrol said in an email. The extent of their injuries was not available.

After the collision, the patrol car struck a 2004 Ford Mustang that was stopped at the intersection. That driver was not injured.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation, the state patrol said.
