Douglas County To Begin Street Sign Installation

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Douglas County plans on installing new street signs as part of the ongoing project changing US Highway 78 to Veterans Memorial Highway. The installation process is scheduled to begin Monday morning on Oct. 22, by the Douglas County Department of Transportation.

Crews will be removing the old street name signs and installing new ones from the Carroll County line to the Cobb County line. “Crews will be changing all of the ground-mounted street named signs as well as the aerial signage at signalized intersections," said Rick Martin, director of Communications and Community Relations.

Weather permitting, the installation should last just about one week.

This change was initially brought to the attention of the Department of Transportation and Geographic Information Services by E-911 after emergency services noticed duplications of addresses along Highway 78. There were two public informational meetings to discuss the readdressing project of Highway 78 and Bankhead Highway back in May.

According to the Department of Transportation Director, Miguel Valentin, the street name change from Highway 78 to Veterans Memorial Highway is necessary to alleviate any confusion involving emergency responders.

The installation will provide uniformity between multiple cities and county, within Douglas County’s right of way, said Bruce Mercer, Douglas County Transportation Engineer.
