Douglas County High Drumline Wins Top Prize, See Video

The Douglas County High School Drumline walked away with the title of Grand Champions of the Band Room Nation CADENCE Percussion Challenge.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA The Douglas County High School Drumline walked away with the title of Grand Champions of the Band Room Nation CADENCE Percussion Challenge in Lithonia, GA, Nov. 5, 2017.

Officially named the Blue Steel Percussion, the drumline members competed against some of the best high school percussion sections in the Southeast in an indoor format. Each drumline was judged on a floor presentation, and the top two were chosen to move forward to the “head-to-head” final round. Douglas County won over Miller Grove High School for the title of Grand Champions and a $500 prize.

Blue Steel consists of performers playing battery percussion instruments as well as melodic percussion, including marimba, bells, vibraphone, and drum set. The drumline will begin competing as an indoor ensemble in spring 2019 as part of the Georgia Indoor Percussion Association Circuit.

Blue Steel operates both independently and as a component of the DCHS Marching Tiger Band. Members of the group developed the show and competed as part of the Marching Tigers. The group is run by Mr. Torre Goodson, Director of Bands, and Mr. Kevin Scales, Percussion Tech.
