Patel of Douglas County High School has been listed as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's 60th annual scholarship program.Around 16,000 seniors were named to the list.Patel and the other semifinalists are in the running for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth $33 million, according to a press release.To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to advance, and half of those will win a scholarship and earn the title of Merit Scholar.
