Douglas County Police Chase Snarls I-20 Traffic

A sheriff's deputy was chasing two suspects accused of stealing from the Home Depot on Thornton Road.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A police chase in Douglas County during rush hour Tuesday morning ended with a deputy spinning out a suspect's vehicle on Interstate 20, blocking traffic on the busy highway.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy had responded to a larceny call at the Home Depot on Thornton Road, said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jesse Hambrick. When the deputy arrived, two suspects got into a vehicle and fled.

The deputy pursued them onto Interstate 20 and, at about 8:24 a.m., used a controlled maneuver near Liberty Road to stop the fleeing vehicle, Hambrick said. The deputy suffered a small cut in the incident, but otherwise, no one was injured, according to Hambrick.
