Douglas County Primary Election Results Are In

Republican Matthew Krull will face Democrat Sonya Compton in November to become the Douglas County Solicitor General.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — The big Douglas County race this year is for Douglas County Solicitor General. Republican Matthew Krull did not face opposition in the primary and will face Democrat Sonya Compton, who won the Democratic primary tonight with 59.6 percent of the vote and a total of 4,375 votes.

Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner was appointed in March to state court judge, leaving the seat open.

Ryan Leonard was sworn in as Douglas County District Attorney earlier this month by Gov. Nathan Deal.
Leonard will serve until the 2020 election. He has been acting DA since earlier this year after former DA Brian Fortner was appointed by the governor to a state court judgeship.

Since Fortner took the judgeship in the middle of his four-year term, Deal was able to appoint Leonard under a new state law or he could have let voters decide during the 2018 election.
