Douglas County Refinery Accident Kills 1, Injures Others (Updated)

A gas leak at a refinery in Douglas County killed one person and injured several others Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at Asphalt Refining and Technology Company on Huey Road in Douglasville.

WSB-TV first reported the accident a little after 6 p.m. Wednesday, saying one of the injured was in critical condition.

Later, the TV station reported a fire official said two people were airlifted and another was transported by ambulance.

WXIA-TV reported the deceased man fell off a platform while rendering aid to a co-worker who had suffered a cardiac arrest. Channel 11 said hydrogen sulfide was somehow released. Three people, including the man who went into cardiac arrest, were taken to the hospital, the TV station said.
