Council met at 5:45 p.m. to authorize Mayor Harvey Persons “to sign an agreement with an independent third party to investigate the pursuit incident involving Police Chief Chris Womack on March 2, 2015,” according to the posted meeting agenda.

The investigation is to be completed before a scheduled special meeting on June 24.

Earlier this month, Council suspended Womack with pay until June 25 as an investigation is completed on the incident which involved a high-speed chase on I-20 and alleged excessive force.
