Douglasville Driver In Deadly Pedestrian Crash

Police say no charges are expected in the collision, which happened Monday night in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A Douglasville man was driving Monday night when his vehicle struck and killed a man in Woodstock.

Cobb County Police say Scott A. Turner, 48, was driving his van on Canton Road in Woodstock when he hit a man who was walking in the roadway.

Investigators were called at 8:57 p.m. and found a man lying in the grass just off of the shoulder of the roadway. The man, identified at Russell L. Matthews, 31, of Marietta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.

Investigators believe Matthews was walking southbound in the road when he was hit by Turner's 2003 Chevrolet Express van. Neither Turner nor a female passenger in the van were injured.

Police say they do not expect any criminal charges to be filed in the case.
