Douglasville Kmart Axed

The Douglasville Kmart will be one of the stores closed sometime in 2012.

It has been confirmed that the is on the list to close sometime in 2012. It comes as no surprise to those Douglasville Patch readers who commented on our about the possible closing of Kmart and Sears.

"Personally, I would not miss the K-Mart," Fran Armstrong commented on Douglasville Patch this morning. "Not only is the store run down, I find that the customer service is poor. While trying to return something at the customer service register, I was forced to stand there like I was invisible until the employees finished their personal conversation and deemed me worthy to wait on. I go to Sears from time to time but not on a regular basis. I agree that we don't need more people out there looking for employment as I too have been unemployed for a few years now even with a Master's degree. Until the economy picks up,we will see more and more businesses, especially small businesses shutting their doors. Unemployed consumers do not buy much."

Another reader, Chris M was also not surprised, "I'll certainly miss K-Mart if they close, and since we are sort of 'out there' ours will probably be slated. I have never set foot in our Sears, so if that's an indication of other peoples' frequency then it, too, will probably close. And I also agree that K-Mart is a bit rundown (probably another indicator that it will be on the chopping block). The whole shopping center there on Hwy 5 is getting very shabby..."

Nianya said, "I hope they keep the Kmart open, traffic is worse at Wal-mart and there are never any checkouts open. Don't close the only competition. Besides I've notice that prices and services have improved considerably at the Kmart this year."

Disappointing Christmas sales were a major reason for the closing, according to an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
