Douglasville Man Killed In Villa Rica Shootout

Both men fired at each other after an argument on Sunday, police said.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Douglasville man was killed Sunday in a shootout with another man in Villa Rica, according to police.

Marko Xavier Burton, 36, was declared dead at Tanner Hospital in Villa Rica after being transported there Sunday evening.

Police were called to the corner of Cleghorn Street and McCauley Street at 6:22 p.m. in regard to shots fired.

During an investigation, police say they learned taht Burton and Julius Walker, 31, of Villa Rica, had been involved in a dispute earlier in the day at another location.

They say Walker was at the location of the shootout when Burton stopped his vehicle and got out with a firearm in his hand. The dispute escalated and both men fired shots at each other, police say.

A bystander also was struck by one of the shots fired, He was treated and released at Tanner Hospital, police said.

Burton was struck by at least one shot. Walker was not injured in the shooting.

Investigators say they learned that the firearm used by Burton had been reported stolen in Paulding County. Walker was found to have an active warrant for a probation violation. He was arrested on that charge, as the investigation into the shooting continues.

The Villa Rica Police Department is asking that any witnesses who have not spoken with investigators contact Captain Shaddix or Detective Terry at 678-840-1322.
