Douglasville Restaurant Honors Korean War Veteran as 'Hometown Hero'

The O’Charley’s restaurant honored “Hometown Hero” Doug McClain during its recent grand re-opening celebration.
The restaurant honored the Korean War veteran following the store’s ribbon cutting on May 5 with the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce.

McClain joined the Army in January of 1950. He completed basic training and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina before being deployed to Korea later that year. McClain served almost two years in Korea. He was involved in the Battle of Pusan Perimeter in 1950, the Battle of the Punchbowl and the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge in 1951. His company was in a combat zone the entire deployment. It was during this time that McClain achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. McClain returned to the states in 1952 and went into the Reserves before retiring from the Army in 1956. He received several medals for his deployment and service in a combat zone.
McClain is one of dozens of “Hometown Heroes” O’Charley’s is honoring at 43 remodeled locations in the U.S. this year.
