Elementary School Students Suspended Over Sexual Assault

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Four Douglas County elementary school students have been suspended after sexually assaulting another child on a school bus last week, school officials say.

Douglas County School System spokeswoman Karen Stroud said one "primarily involved" student and three "peripherally involved" students were "involved in an inappropriate sexual incident against another child" on the bus.

The students attend Burnett Elementary School in Douglasville.

School administrators were notified the next morning and they contacted law enforcement and the state Department of Human Services, Stroud said.

The four students were immediately suspended from riding the bus. Following a law enforcement investigation, during which all parents cooperated, the four students also were suspended from school, Stroud said.
