Please join our excitement in announcing the Harvester Christian Academy Gala and Auction speaker for 2011. Legendary coach Bobby Bowden will charm this year’s enthusiastic guests. Bowden promises to be entertaining and inspiring. Bowden is a nationally known celebrity, a well respected sports figure, the second winningest coach in football history, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
Having coached young men over several decades, Bobby Bowden is the second-winningest coach in major college football history. Bowden guided Florida State University to more than three hundred victories, two national championships, twelve Atlantic Coast Conference titles, finishing in the top five in the country in 14 straight seasons, and led the Seminoles to Bowl Games in 28 consecutive seasons during his 34 year tenure. He is the only coach ever to lead nine consecutive teams to ten or more wins per season and molded his Seminoles into the most successful team in college football history. His program is the only one in college football history to finish among the Associated Press’s top four in nine consecutive seasons, win 11 straight bowl games, and play in 14 bowl games in a row without a loss. His team won the national championship in 1993 and 1999. Bowden was named National Coach of the Year in 1979 and 1980, ACC Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1997, and the Home Depot National Coach of the Year in 1996 and 1999. He is the patriarch of college football’s most famous coaching family.
Rising above Bowden’s remarkable coaching accomplishments, are his credentials as a man. Bobby Bowden is known as much for his affable charm as he is for his championship teams. Friendly and outgoing, he is a deeply religious man who believes strongly in the strength of the family. He loves people and people love him. His personality and charm are bigger than life and he has become somewhat of a folk hero and entertainer. As an engaging speaker and celebrity Bowden is constantly in demand. He is a featured sports commentator and a star in advertising. He remains heavily involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; annually awarding The National Bobby Bowden Award to a student athlete for achievement on and off the field, including the athlete’s conduct as a faith model in the community. Some have called Bowden “The Preacher” for his ability to deliver a message from both the sideline and the pulpit; therefore it is not unusual to find him on any given Sunday morning in the pulpit of a church somewhere in the south. His latest book “Called to Coach: Reflections on Life, Faith, and Football” was released in August 2010. Autographed copies will be offered for sale at the Gala and Auction.
