From Douglasville County: Brenda Grissom, CEO/Founder, of Gertrude’s House is pleased to announce the first annual Walk It Out for Cancer event on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at J. W. Steward Middle School, 8138 Malone Street, Douglasville, GA 30134. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. In collaboration with community leaders and partners,Walk It Out for Cancer will be a pivotal point in helping women who suffer from breast cancer realize that there is support for them as they walk down the road of the fear of the unknown towards a brighter day.

Two-time breast cancer and one-time ovarian cancer survivor Brenda Grissom has firsthand knowledge on what it takes to battle these diseases for more than three decades. She is without a doubt the definition of a survivor! In this time, Grissom has also counseled women to be warriors in their own rights. Brenda created Gertrude’s House based on her personal experiences in preparing God’s battle plan to beat breast and ovarian cancer, with her faith in God being the saving grace during her journey.

The purpose of the walk is to build a community of mental, physical, and financial support. Participants and attendees will have access to information about early detection and breast cancer treatment options. The financial donations the organization receives from this event will help women diagnosed with breast cancer who are underinsured, unemployed, and do not have access to healthcare. The funds will also help with the women’s childcare, transportation to doctor appointments, and nutritional needs, along with the other necessities of life. The goal is to help women understand and experience the HOPE that may have crushed them at their initial diagnosis. The staff at Gertrude’s House wants to shows women how hope truly looks and help them understand how to cope, live, and fight breast cancer.
