Former Plaintiff Attorney Named Douglas County Assistant DA
Norman L. Barnett will prosecute cases in the Superior Court of Judge David Emerson.

Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner has appointed Norman L. Barnett as Assistant DA, according to a county announcement.

Barnett will prosecute cases in the Superior Court of Judge David Emerson.
Prior to coming to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Barnett was a plaintiff’s attorney and insurance defense counsel for private firms in Atlanta. He also was a volunteer attorney with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation in Atlanta.

Barnett earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Arch Society, the UGA Redcoat Marching Band, and the UGA Jazz Band. During UGA Law School, he was the Notes Editor and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, and was the Coach of the Black Law Students Association National Moot Court Team.
A Columbus, Ga. native, Barnett lives in Smyrna with his wife, Alexandra.
“Norman brings talent, different viewpoints and energy to the District Attorney’s Office that will aid our efforts to truly represent all residents of Douglas County, and we are glad to have him with us,” Fortner said in a statement.
