Gena Yvonne Stokes, 64, Dies

Gena Yvonne Stokes, 64 of Winston, was called to her eternal home by her Heavenly Father on Saturday, Nov. 9. She was born June 22, 1949, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the eldest daughter of the late Gene R. Stokes and Norma (Green) Stokes.

Gena touched the many lives of her students at P. L. Dunbar Middle School in Fort Myers, FL, and Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, WA, in science and computer programming.  We will treasure her devoted Christian faith through her ministries of music, Daughters of the King, Lay Eucharistic Minister, stewardship, youth group, and prayer shawl ministry.  She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Ft. Myers, FL; St. John’s Episcopal Church of Gig Harbor, WA; St. Bede’s Episcopal Church of Port Orchard, WA and St. Julian Episcopal Church of Douglasville, GA.  Gena was a member of Middle Georgia Belles and Beaus Club in Macon, GA.

She is survived by her loving mother, Norma; and siblings; Diane Stokes and Terry Perkins, Christine (Stokes) Wright and husband Jim, Richard Stokes, and Sheri (Stokes) Seratt and husband Phil; nephews, Jimmy Wright and wife Jackie, and Jeff Wright; niece, Leslie (Seratt) Wallace; great-nieces, Blake Wright and Jenna Wallace; and great-nephew, Gavin Wright.

We will always cherish her love, her laughter, and gentle nature that she shared with her family and friends.

Her cremated remains will be interred in Washington.
