GreyStone earns top Walk Georgia Douglas team
Three GreyStone employees take top individual spots for Douglas County.

GreyStone Power is encouraging employees to increase their level of fitness through the Walk Georgia program, and those efforts are paying off. The Walk Georgia Douglas team recently announced winners of their spring 2015 session, and GreyStone was recognized as the top team. The electric cooperative had 48 total participants who together earned 330,985 points by logging their fitness activities online for 12 weeks, from February through the end of April.
“Walk Georgia is a free Web-based fitness program designed to encourage activity and exercise,” said Susan Culpepper, family and consumer sciences extension agent in Douglas County. “The Walk Georgia program provides free fitness tracking, healthy eating tips, and resources on fitness. The website helps users to track their activities and record fitness progress,” she added.
GreyStone employees also earned the top individual spots for Douglas County, with Nabil Chabayta of Douglasville earning 23,062 points and 196 hours of activity for first place, Sandy Beasley of Winston earning 17,543 points and 104 hours of activity for second place, and Mary Sipe of Powder Springs earning 16,914 points and 97 hours of activity for third place. The average GreyStone participant earned 6,895 points.

The Walk Georgia website, www.walkgeorgia.org, also provides resources on health and the tools and information to get physically active in Douglas County. Users can choose to participate individually, or within a group. “We are finding employers and schools are using the program to encourage fitness, The Walk Georgia online program can be modified to serve many groups in our community,” said Culpepper. Walk Georgia is administered by UGA Extension in Douglas County.
GreyStone Power serves nearly 109,000 members in portions of eight counties, including Douglas, Paulding, Fulton, Cobb, Carroll, Bartow, Fayette and Coweta counties. Learn more at www.greystonepower.com.
