Fire Destroys Home Near Dorsett Shoals Road

No one was injured and the fire has been extinguished after flames totally consumed a house on Woods Valley Drive, off of Dorsett Shoals Rd., this morning.

Dave Lunsford said he awoke at about 9:45 this morning when he heard a pop and a gust of really strong wind. "I went outside thinking a limb had fallen and I smelled smoke."

"I ran back inside and got my cell phone and called 911," he said. "I grabbed some clothes and my wallet and shoes. Then (a neighbor) was at the front door telling me to get the hell out.

"I went to get a hose but by that time I knew the flames were too high to tackle by myself."

Lunsford said he lives in the house with his 14-year-old niece, who is at school.

"I don't know how I'm going to tell her about this," he said. "After she lost her mother and now she's lost everything else."

Lunsford said his sister passed away a few months ago and he has been taking care of his niece since. "I don't care what happens to me but I thank God she was at school."

One of the family pets has been located, a Dachshund, but the other pet is still missing.

The house and garage were totally destroyed but the vehicles, which were not parked in the garage, were undamaged.

No official details have been released from the County about the fire yet.
