Here's A Valentine From God
This week's devotional is a Valentines blessing about the love of God.

The love of God surpasses anything that we could understand. It is reasonable for us to love our children. It is understandable for us to go out of our way and make sacrifice for our family and close friends. We may even feel pressed to rise to the occasion for what we deem to be a worthy cause, or the plight of a co-worker. These are reasonable, logical, compassionate responses to the needs of others.
But the Bible tells us something different about the love of God. Romans 5:6-8 tells us:
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

It is human nature to be willing to make a sacrifice for the ones we know and care for. But God, in His love for His creation, gave up His most prized thing... His own Son. It was not for church people... it was not for good people... it was not for kind and trustworthy people... it was for broken, hurt, ashamed, fallen, and unlovable people that He gave His Son.
The verse above tells us that there are men (and women) that will die for a worthy cause or person. Many of us make regular mention of these men and women... the military, our law enforcers, and fire fighters... that place their lives in harms way for the greater good of the people at large. But... who is willing to die for the wicked... not a stranger, but one that you know is wicked in their every thought and deed. That is what God sent His son to do... to die for the ungodly... which at one time or another applies to all of us!

Regardless of religion, race, creed, culture, nationality or anything other thing we use to create divisions among ourselves... there is no division in the love of God. It is without dissimulation.
This Valentines Day, there will be gifts of candy and flowers. There will be dinners shared with that certain someone. When you sit to dine and share in that special moment, think for just a moment that as important as the other is across from you... you, as you are right now, are more precious in the eyes of God... precious enough to die for.
