DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The following are some highlights from the special called meeting of the Douglas County Board of Education on Monday, January 9.

  • Tracy Rookard was elected school board chairwoman. Michelle Simmons was elected vice-chairwoman.
  • The board approved its code of ethics and meeting dates for 2017.
  • The board approved bringing on the Georgia School Boards Association to conduct its superintendent search. The cost is $7,000-$8,5000 plus expenses.
  • Trudy Sowar with the Georgia School Boards Association presented information regarding the superintendent search process.
  • Chief Academic Officer Pam Nail presented information on the system's accreditation visit, which will take place January 22-25.
  • Kevin Jefferson was named the new assistant principal at New Manchester High School, to replace Shawn Bissell.

Present were board members Tracy Rookard, Michelle Simmons, Devetrion Caldwell, D.T. Jackson and Jeff Morris.
