ICYMI: Google Makes $300M Commitment in Douglas County

Google announced Tuesday plans for a $300-million expansion of its data center in Douglas County that will meet growing global demand and add more employees to its local work force.

The company said the expansion will add 25 full-time jobs to the already 350-plus employees in Douglas County.
The expansion includes a new facility to be built adjacent to the existing data center on Riverside Parkway. Construction is set to begin this summer, with completion by the end of 2016. The Douglas County center is one of only 13 Google data centers in the world, the company said.

“Every time you send an email or search for a nearby restaurant, the Internet grows – and our data centers grow too,” Google said in a statement. “We have to stay ahead of our users, so they can keep doing what they want to do online. That’s why we’re announcing today our plans to expand the data center in Douglas County, Georgia.”
Google says there are more than 100 billion Google searches every month, 60 trillion web address worldwide, and 300 billion hours of video uploaded each minute to YouTube.
“This expansion is part of the gradual process of growing capacity for the future and will allow us to better serve our users around the world,” Google said. “The new data center will help meet growing demand for Google’s services, including Search, Google+, Gmail, Maps, YouTube and other applications.”
