Intensive Arts Camp Held at Deer Lick

The and the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation are pleased to offer the ninth annual intensive arts camp at , from Monday, April 2, through Friday, April 6. Children, seven through 11 years old, will explore a wide variety of art disciplines with five expert and experienced teaching artists–dance with Joi Jamison, African drumming with Sobhan Mobasher, drawing and painting with Tamara Morgan, ceramics tile painting with Mack Porter and paper crafts and puppetry with Terumi Todd.

Campers (a total of 50 can be registered) are divided into five groups of ten by age. Camp begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. Early drop off (8:30 am) and late pick up (5:00 p.m.) can be arranged at no additional fee with the Parks and Recreation staff. Fees for the week are $75 for this first child ($60 for CAC members) with a $5 dollar discount for siblings. Space is limited, so reservations must be made by calling CAC at 770-949-2787. A limited number of scholarships are available with staff approval.

Daily schedule will include three art-making sessions, a morning and afternoon break (snacks provided by Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation) and lunch (provided by campers). Each artist will work with three groups each day and with each group twice on projects in their discipline. The final day will be spent at Deer Lick Park’s gymnasium on a camp project with everyone participating and on the display of works to be presented during the Celebration of Success, Friday, April 6, 5 until 6 pm. Families and the community are invited to attend.

The project is a partnership between the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County and the Douglas County Department of Recreation. Rafael Williams, Program Assistant, CAC, and Tracie Ivey, Programs Manager, DCDR, are coordinators of the project. Tracie Ivey is the site coordinator during the spring break camp week at Deer Lick, Monday through Thursday, April 2 through Friday, April 6, when the participants will be at the gymnasium of Deer Lick Park in the afternoon for the final celebration.
