June Jobless Rates Up in Douglas County, Down in Douglasville
The Georgia Department of Labor said both rates were considerably lower than a year ago.

The unemployment rate was up in the county, but down in the city in June, according to data released Thursday by the state department of labor.

The rate in Douglas County climbed three-tenths of a percentage point to 6.7 percent last month, up from 6.4 in May. The rate in the county in June 2014 was 7.9, the data showed.
In Douglasville, the rate fell from 7.4 in May to 7.1 in June. The rate was 8.9 last year.

The labor department said metro Atlanta’s rate was up one-tenth of a point in June -- 6.0, up from 5.9 in May, but considerably less than June 2014 (7.3).
The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs, as measured by unemployment insurance claims, increased, the labor department said.
Metro Gainesville had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.3 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 8.2.
Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for June was 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 in May. It was 7.3 percent in June 2014.
