Korean War Vet James Edward Smith, 76, Dies

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Layton and Rev. Jeff Layton officiating.

James Edward Smith , 76 of Bremen , passed away Monday, Oct. 7, in a local hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Haralson County, April 30, 1937, son of the late Raymond Smith and Viola Hammonds Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired employee of the Southwire Company and a member of Mt. Zion East Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Smith and a grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Thrower Smith of Bremen; children, Jimmy and Brooxie Smith of Anacoco, LA, Robin Kiker of Bremen, Frankie and Christina Smith, Tallapoosa, Kenny and Toni Smith, Bremen; (14) grandchildren, (3) great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Ledbetter of Bowdon and a brother, Claude Smith of Tallapoosa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 until 9 p,m.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Layton and Rev. Jeff Layton officiating. Poems will be read by Sharee Kiker and Toni Smith. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Jimmy Smith, Jr., Joshua Smith, Daniel Smith, Joseph Smith, Robert Kiker and Carey Moody. Skyler Smith, Kaleb Smith, Logan Wall and Kaysen Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion East Baptist Church Cemetery.
