Lithia Springs HS Principal Named GA Principal of Year Finalist

The Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals has recognized Lithia Springs High Principal as a finalist for Principal of the Year.

LITHIA SPRINGS, GA — The Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals has recognized Lithia Springs High School Principal Dr. Garrick Askew as a finalist for Principal of the Year. The Principal of the Year program recognizes principals that excel in educational leadership, resolving complex problems, developing self and others, and community service.

The GASSP committee selected a total of six finalists from a large pool of statewide applications. The application process involves an extensive review of the performance of their school based on data provided by the applicants. Finalists will go through an interview in Athens to determine the Georgia Principal of the Year.

Dr. Garrick Askew is in his tenth year with the Douglas County School System, having served the past six years as principal at Lithia Springs High School. When speaking about his selection as a finalist, Askew said, “I am honored to be considered for the GASSP principal of the year award. The Douglas County School System has supported LSHS’ quest for excellence over the past six years. We have a great group of educators at LSHS, who work hard for students each day. I hope to represent the best of what we do as a team, and what I do leading our efforts as principal during the upcoming interviews in Athens.”

Superintendent Trent North recognizes Dr. Askew’s commitment to providing an exceptional learning environment for all students. North says: “Dr. Askew is an outstanding asset to the school system because he has demonstrated leadership ability, a commitment to students and an unwavering commitment to seeing all Douglas County Students succeed.”

The Principal of the Year recognition program is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals and Association Member Benefit Advisor (AMBA). The Georgia winner will represent the state in the competition for National Principal of the Year, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
