Man Airlifted After Tractor Trailer Hits Disabled Car On I-20
Two people were injured in a crash Thursday on I-20 when a tractor-trailer struck a disabled vehicle in the emergency lane.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Two people were injured in a crash Thursday on I-20 westbound when a tractor-trailer struck a disabled vehicle that was sitting stationary on the right shoulder, between Thornton Rd. and Lee Rd. in Douglas County. The condition of the drivers is unknown.
The tractor-trailer driver, John Carter, 54, of Atlanta, was seriously injured and airlifted to Grady Hospital, according to the Georgia State Patrol. He worked for R & R Express, Inc. The driver of the disabled vehicle, Jermaine Drake, 41, of Morrow, was was transported to Atlanta with non-life-threatening injuries. He was driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima.
The disabled vehicle parked in the emergency lane was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling west on I-20. After the impact, the 18-wheeler jackknifed into the trees and the cab came to rest over the side of the embankment.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Georgia State Patrol and Douglas County Fire and EMS were called to the scene of the wreck.
This crash is still under investigation. Charges are pending, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
