ATLANTA, GA — It's going to be a mixed bag of weather on Memorial Day weekend in the Atlanta area.

According to the National Weather Service, the weekend should get off to a sunny start. But, by the time Memorial Day itself rolls around Monday, folks hoping to get out and enjoy the long weekend may have to dodge some thunderstorms to do so.

There's not a drop of rain in the Atlanta-area forecast for Saturday or Sunday morning. But, by Sunday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms are expected to begin rolling in.

And by Monday, there's roughly a 50-50 chance of storms.

So, plan accordingly, bring an umbrella and, rain or shine, don't forget to take at least a moment to remember those whose sacrifice Memorial Day is all about.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65. Southwest wind 5-10 m.p.h.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind 5-10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. Saturday night, partly cloudy, with a low around 71.

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. West wind 5-10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 20 m.p.h. A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night, mainly after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Memorial Day: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
