Arthur “Art” Edward Knapp, Jr., age 77, of Douglasville , passed away, Saturday, June 20, 2015, from complications of hip surgery. He was born March 8, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Arthur Edward Knapp and Eva Ross Knapp.
Art has made his home in various states, including Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Carolina and he has been a longtime resident of Douglasville.

In recent years, he and his wife Shirley ran a daycare out of their home in Sterling Point. Art was “Grandpa” to generations of children. At any given day, he could be found sitting in the rocking chair with a baby in his arms.
Art was a skilled Mechanical Engineer. He worked for Cadillac Products, until he was disabled in 1998. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering by attending night school for five years in addition to working fulltime.
He was a Private in the United States Army Reserve and received an Honorable Discharge from Active Duty. He was a medic while serving.
He enjoyed playing Bingo.
He loved going to church. He was attending the West Metro Church of God in Douglasville.
Art was an amazing father and grandfather. His love knew no bounds. If it was broken, he would fix it, if you were broken down, he would rescue you.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Knapp of Douglasville; sister: Evalyn, from California. Art was stepfather to Todd Wagner from Chicago and Kelley (Wagner) Likes, from Atlanta. Art had two sons, Mark and Robert, both of Ohio from a previous marriage. He had 11 grandchildren: Taisha, Xanthos, Zerin, Mali and Daxton Likes, Rianne and Alexandra Wagner, Amanda and Abbey Knapp and Ireland and Isabella Knapp.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the West Metro Church of God located at 3858 Kings Hwy., Douglasville, GA 30135.
