Mr. Donald Joseph “Don” Strickland, age 65, of Winston, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015. He was born in Douglasville on June 27, 1950, the son of the late Ervin and Cordelia Garner Strickland.

Don is a lifelong resident of Douglas County and was a 1970 graduate of Douglas County High School. He retired from Dennis Taylor & Company, having worked as a commercial equipment Operator and Foreman for many years. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 926. Don loved the outdoors--hunting and fishing, cooking, spending time with his kids and grandkids, and telling his stories. He was a dedicated member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Winston. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Joseph Donald Strickland.

Survivors include his children: Rebecca Strickland-Wise, and her husband, Chuck, of Hanover, Virginia; Bryan Donald Strickland of Cartersville; Rachael Diane Strickland of Winston, Georgia; Jessie Cordelia Mixon, and her husband, Brandon, of Winston, Georgia; Travis Ryan Strickland of Winston, Georgia; longtime girlfriend, Sherry Daniell McKinley of Winston, Georgia; sisters: Barbara Warren of Vienna, Georgia; Rachel Jordan, and her husband, Doyal, of Winston, Georgia; grandchildren: Jonathan Bobby Strickland, Katie Wise, Savannah Jo Ann Wise, Makenzie Diane Mitchell, Hannah Grace Griffiths, Destany Gennaro, Bayleigh Gennaro, Ryder Lee Mixon, Travis Hunter Mixon, and Maddox Joseph Goss; the mother of his children: Carla Strickland-Rinaldi; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 4:00-9:00 P.M.

Don will lie-in-state on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church in Winston, Georgia from12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. followed by the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 P.M. Pastor Eric Evans will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Donald Garrett, Brandon Mixon, Chuck Wise, Danny Pate, Dennis Chandler, Gene Willis, Jimmy Brittain, Ricky Payne, and Chris Norton will serve as Pallbearers.
