'Ms Giggles' Retires After 25 Years With Douglas County

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglas County employees and guests gathered recently for a heartfelt retirement celebration for Veneita Dye, maybe better known as "Ms. Giggles." Dye received gifts, hugs and well wishes at a send-off reception, which occurred on the third floor of the Douglas County Courthouse on Thursday.

After dedicating nearly a quarter of a century of service, Venetia Dye decided to retire from her custodian position at the Douglas County Courthouse. Venetia, who is also known as Ms. Giggles because of her infectious laugh, began her career as a part-time custodian at the old courthouse. In 1998, Dye transitioned to a full-time position with the Courthouse Maintenance Department at the new courthouse at 8700 Hospital Drive.

As current and former employees gathered to express their love and appreciation, many fellow employees shared their stories that highlighted Dye’s personality and work ethic.

“I don’t know what I will miss the most, her hard work and dedication to her job or her infectious laughter and wonderful personality. She has a way of brightening up a room and making everyone smile when she is around,” said Douglas County Facilities Manager Mark Price. “All I can say is that this courthouse will not be the same without her and I wish her the very best in her much deserved retirement.”

Venetia Dye intends to take her life to another level in retirement by celebrating old memories and new beginnings. Douglas County Commission Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones and Facilities Manager Mark Price jump-started her retirement by presenting the first gifts at Dye’s reception. Also, several other departments and employees presented gifts and cards throughout the gathering.

On behalf of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and employees, the board of commissioners thanked and congratulated Dye on her retirement and wish her all of the best in her future endeavors.
