New Animal Services Resource Coordinator Hopes to 'Re-Inspire' Volunteers

Douglas County Animal Services has named Mary Celano as its new Resource Coordinator, the county said in a news release.

The Resource Coordinator is in charge of creating animal adoption opportunities through events, rescue groups, and individuals, and of volunteers at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

Ms. Celano began employment at the Shelter in 2013 as a Kennel Technician. She was promoted in 2014 to Lead Kennel Technician, and was chosen Resource Coordinator through the County’s application and interview process.

She applied for the position “to help give dogs and cats a home” and the her two years working at the Shelter had given her an unique perspective for the new position. She hopes to “re-inspire” volunteers to help in the Shelter and with adoption events, and to “reinvigorate” the position and rescue program. The Resource Coordinator also assists in public education, and will be distributing information on spay/neuter programs and on the new Animal Services Building/Shelter currently under design.

Ms. Celano is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, but as a “military brat” moved around a lot. Setting in Georgia, she was a Bible student at World Changers Church before coming to work at the County.

She has personal experience with pets being the proud parent of Brandi Mae, a female adult Lab/{it Bull mix, and Favor, a male domestic short hair tuxedo cat.
