The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has two openings, according to posts on the department’s website:
- Certified Deputy Sheriff
This is general law enforcement work responsible for protecting life and property within Douglas County; enforcing traffic regulations, state laws and county ordinances; responding to emergency situations, citizen requests for assistance and alarms; and conducting investigations in response to reported or discovered criminal activity. Work may involve duty as a detective or investigator, process serving, administrative duties, or other special assignments as determined by the Sheriff. Work requires independent judgment and discretion in difficult or unusual situations. Work involves personal danger.
Schedule includes days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Mandatory – previous law enforcement experience
Georgia Peace Officer certified at time of application; Mandatory P.O.S.T. certified

High School Diploma/GED
Must complete a minimum of 40 hours of P.O.S.T. approved training each year
Must have current valid GA Driver’s License with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record; Ability and willingness to drive a county vehicle
Minimum 21 years of age
Employment contingent on passing mandatory Physical/Drug Screen/Credit Check/Polygraph Test/Background Investigation/Psychological Examination and MVR.
Salary: $33,909.20 Annual ($16.3025/hour) plus full benefits package.
- Communications Officer Trainee
This is telecommunications work which involves utilizing customer service skills by operating the Sheriff’s Office switchboard and greeting the general public. Work involves receiving and directing phone calls, dispatching sworn personnel, monitoring radios, operating the GCIC terminal, dealing with officers by use of radio communication in order to verify outstanding warrants, license checks and BOLO reports. Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED
Ability to operate a multi-line switchboard
Certification as a GCIC terminal operator within 12 months of employment
State certification as a P.O.S.T. communication officer within 12 months of employment
Must be computer literate
Must be able to type 35 WPM
Must have current Georgia Driver’s License with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
Employment contingent on passing mandatory Physical/Drug Screen/Credit Check/Polygraph Test/Background Investigation/Psychological Examination and MVR.
Salary: $27,897.37 Annual ($13.4122 hourly) plus full benefits package.
