Parks William Burton, 84, Dies

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on today from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Cox and Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiating.

Parks William Burton, 84 of Carrollton, passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1929 in Suwanee, the son of the late Guy William Burton and Johnie Parks Burton. He graduated from Abraham Baldwin Junior College and earned his BBA from Georgia State University in 1960. He served as a former director of the Economic Development Department of Atlanta Gas Light Company, and retired in 1991 with 39 years with the company. He also served as a director of the West Georgia branch of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s industrial development division. He also served as manager of the Carrollton office of the Atlanta Gas Light Company. He was named “Man of the Year” for Rockmart in 1966, “Citizen of the Year” for Carroll County in 1973. He was a former Chairman of the Tanner Hospital Board, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Watson Burton, on July 16, 2013; sisters: Nellie Moore, Lois Sloan and Mary Tucker; and brother, Harold Burton. Survivors include his children: Cecelia “Cissy” (Jeff) Price, Michael A. Burton, Tammy (Keith) Crews, and Larry P. (Ethel) Burton, all of Carrollton; sister, Ruth Hannon of Loganville; brothers: Marvin (Penny) Burton, of Grayson, Robert (Jeannette) Burton of Loganville, and Ralph (Patsy) Burton, also of Loganville; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on today from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Cox and Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Lambert, Charlie Story, Bill Cook, Freeman Borders, Buford Clements and Paul Adams. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Dr. J. Howard Cobble presiding.

The family are receiving friends at the church on Monday from noon until the hour of service.
