The 8th annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival is this weekend — Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7 — in Douglasville and everyone is invited.

Here’s a look at what to expect at the festival, as listed on the county government website:
- Festival Centerpiece: Standard Flower Show
The classic white Hydrangea Macrophylla creates loads of blossoms with pink or blue eyes for repeated displays. It is produced upon luxuriant, glossy foliage that turns to autumn colors or red, orange and green setting off its flawless blooms.

“Ooh, La, La! is a French phrase that indicates surprise, and the Madame Emile Mouillere certainly delivers surprises, as does the width and breadth of the Standard Flower Show!

Garden Tours Featuring Nationally Recognized Private Gardens
- Saturday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Various Locations, $25 per person, tickets available at the Douglas County Courthouse.
Miniature Gardens in Wheelbarrows
- Saturday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Old Douglas County Courthouse, 6754 Broad Street, Free Admission
Design Gardens and Butterfly Garden (Cultural Arts Council), Vegetable Garden with Scarecrow Exhibit (Douglas Public Health), Rose Garden and Quilt Exhibit (Woodie Fite Senior Center)
- Saturday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Free Admission
“Chalk it up to Beautiful Gardens” sidewalk chalk art creations and “Flower Pot Festivities” children’s flower pot decorating activity

Landscape Garden Design Exhibit featuring special festival design by McPlants

“Ooh, La, La!” Standard Flower Show featuring 500 horticultural entries in flowers, trees, shrubs, and related categories, Table Design, and Artistic Crafts Competition

Tara Dillard - Beautiful, Easy Landscapes - Garden Design Presentation
- Saturday, 2 p.m., Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, $10 admission at the door
“The Hydrangea Run” 5K Race
- Sunday, 6:30 a.m. registration, 7 a.m. 5K through the decorated streets of Douglasville, run starts and ends at the Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, $30 entry
“The Arts Scene in Paris” lecture by Dr. Lisa Street
- Sunday, 1 p.m., Cultural Arts Council, 8652 Campbellton Street, $10 at the door
