Pet Team, Petco, Assist Shelter with Cats from Alleged Hoarding Case

A local Pet Emergency Team and the Petco Foundation are assisting the Douglas County Animal Shelter with about 100 cats from an alleged hoarding case.

Daffy’s P.A.S.T. (Pet Assistance Service Team) are at Douglas County Animal Control today to assist in the care and recovery of about 100 cats in an alleged hoarding case. Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen has already donated more than 1,000 pounds of food and supplies to Douglas County for these cats. Daffy’s P.A.S.T., thanks to an emergency grant from the Petco Foundation, will help set up a temporary shelter at the Douglasville site. Daffy's founder, Tom Wargo, will deliver 40 crates, an additional 50 cases of canned cat food, and a ton of cat litter today.

Daffy’s is a charitable organization well known for their help in the community: they were the first 'pet soup kitchen' in the country and they have done a lot of work following natural disasters in the state of Georgia over the past 16 years. When Daffy's learned about the alleged hoarding case and the strain that it put on Douglas County's Animal Control personnel and budget, they offered to help. Daffy’s contacted Petco Foundation immediately and Petco was more than happy to promptly assist with the situation.

"Our concern is only for the care of these cats and the chance that they will be able to get into good homes. It is not the cats' fault and they have been through enough", said Wargo. "Petco Foundation and Daffy’s have worked together for years in the effort to save the lives of animals in Georgia and I am only glad that we were able to do it again. Daffy’s wants to thank Douglas County for their efforts and their ongoing work with these cats and also to Petco Foundation for all the years of support and the great work that they do."
