Rick Martin Named To Douglas County FCA Board

Rick Martin is the first African American board member to serve in the 14-year-history of the Douglas County FCA organization.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA—The West Metro Fellowship Christian Athletes (FCA) Organization announced Friday that Rick Martin, current director of communications and community relations for Douglas County, Board of Commissioners has joined the Board of Advisers for the Douglas County FCA.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to have been approached and support this organization in our community,” Martin said. “I’ve always been an advocate for student athletes and athletic coaches and as a Christian I’m just humbled and excited at this wonderful opportunity.”

Martin spent nearly 30 years as an award winning broadcast journalist for CNN and local television news stations in major cities in the United States. This makes him a very valuable asset of knowledge, professional experience and love for the community, according Douglas County FCA officials.

“The Douglas County FCA is blessed to have Rick Martin on the Board of Advisers,” West Metro Area District Director Jay Webb said. “Rick Martin has a proven track record of how to be successful when God is first in your life and if you haven’t heard him speak about living a laserfocused life, it’s a must.”

Martin brings great experiences playing key roles in covering stories such as the trial of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez who was charged with murder, found guilty and ultimately died from suicide.

“I believe it’s no accident that my office is in the courthouse where often times, I witness first-hand accounts of the reality of life when the judicial system has to be involved with student or professional athletes,” Martin said. “My goal is to be in a position to serve God and be used as
he sees fit to impact lives of student athletes in an inspiring and encouraging way.”

Martin is the first African American board member to serve in the 14-year-history of the Douglas County FCA organization.

“When I recently became aware of this significant milestone with Black History Month quickly approaching, I’m truly humbled by this,” Martin said. “It’s critical we must embrace diversity to extend the Kingdom of God and being in this position will only enhance all of our efforts as one community.”
